Angle Bisector Construction

How to construct an Angle Bisector (halve the angle)
using just a compass and a straightedge

Steps to Bisect an Angle

  1. Place the compass point on the angle's vertex (let's call it point A)
  2. Draw an arc across both arms of the angle, creating two intersection points (let's call them B and C)
  3. Place the compass point on B and draw an arc in the interior of the angle
  4. Place the compass point on C and draw another arc intersecting the arc from step 3. Label this intersection point D
  5. Draw a straight line from vertex A through point D using a straightedge

Line AD is the angle bisector. It divides the original angle into two equal angles.
