Angle Bisector Construction
How to construct an Angle Bisector (halve the angle)
using just a compass and a straightedge
images/construct.js?mode=anglebisect
Steps to Bisect an Angle
- Place the compass point on the angle's vertex (let's call it point A)
- Draw an arc across both arms of the angle, creating two intersection points (let's call them B and C)
- Place the compass point on B and draw an arc in the interior of the angle
- Place the compass point on C and draw another arc intersecting the arc from step 3. Label this intersection point D
- Draw a straight line from vertex A through point D using a straightedge
Line AD is the angle bisector. It divides the original angle into two equal angles.
