Reciprocal

Reciprocal
The reciprocal of a number is: 1 divided by the number

Examples:

• the reciprocal of 2 is 1/2 (half)
• the reciprocal of 10 is 1/10 (=0.1)

Every number has a reciprocal except 0 (1/0 is undefined)

The reciprocal is shown as 1/x, or x-1


When we multiply a number by its reciprocal we get 1

Example: 3 times 1/3 equals 1


Also called the "Multiplicative Inverse"
