Origin Symmetry

It looks the same Upside Down!

(... or from any two opposite directions*)

Origin Symmetry

The "Origin" is the central point ... so Origin Symmetry is sometimes called Point Symmetry.

Origin Symmetry is when every part has a matching part:

  • the same distance from the orgin
  • but in in the opposite direction.

(Note: its the same as "Rotational Symmetry of Order 2")

Examples

Playing Cards often have Origin Symmetry, so that they look the same from the top or bottom.
These Letters have Origin Symmetry, too!

*Same from Opposite Direction?

Yes, pick a direction, and anything with origin symmetry will look the same from the opposite direction, too.

Example: If cut at 45°, the two halves of this card are identical. In other words the view from 45°, and the opposite direction of 45° (which is 225°) are the same.
